# Install on Mac

> Install Sightline on your Mac, including a district-managed Mac that asks you to copy the app for updates.

**1. Download**

Go to [sightlinebehavior.com/download](https://sightlinebehavior.com/download/) and select **Download for Mac**. The page offers a version for Macs with Apple silicon and one for Macs with Intel.

**2. Install**

Open the Sightline disk image (.dmg) in **Downloads**, then choose an option.

**Just for you**\
No password needed.

1. Double-click Sightline in the disk image. If macOS asks whether to open an app downloaded from the internet, select **Open**.
2. Choose **Copy and open**.

Sightline copies itself to the **Applications** folder in your home folder and opens.

If Sightline opens without asking, quit it, then drag Sightline from the disk image into the **Applications** folder in your home folder. If your home folder has no Applications folder, create one with that name first.

**For everyone on this Mac**\
You may be asked for an administrator name and password.

1. Drag Sightline into **Applications**.
2. Open Sightline from **Applications**.

**3. Open**

If Sightline isn't already open, open it from the **Applications** folder you chose. If macOS asks whether to open an app downloaded from the internet, select **Open**.

**4. Choose a plan**

Accept the terms, choose whether to share anonymous usage data and crash reports, then select **Continue with Community**, **Start trial**, or **Enter key**. See [Plans and licensing](https://docs.sightlinebehavior.com/licensing.md).

## On a district-managed Mac

With a standard account, Sightline can't update itself in the main **Applications** folder. If you open it from there, it asks **Copy Sightline to get updates?** Choose **Copy and open** to use the personal installation described above.

Your data and the original copy stay as they are. Put the new copy in the Dock in place of the old icon. If you open the original later, it opens your copy.

If you chose **Skip for now**, Sightline keeps running from its current location without updates and won't ask you to copy it again until the next update. To reopen the prompt, select **Restart to set up updates** when it appears in the sidebar.

## Good to know

If Sightline says it could not make or open the new copy, it keeps running where it was and your data is unchanged. Try again at the next update, or [contact support](https://docs.sightlinebehavior.com/contact-support.md).

Once a newer Sightline has opened your data, an older copy shows "Open the newest copy of Sightline" instead. Quit and open the newer copy.
