# Record a peer comparison

> Record a peer alongside the student in frequency or interval recording, and read the comparison in Results.

Peer comparison records a classmate under the same conditions as the student. It is available for Frequency, Partial Interval, Whole Interval, and Momentary Time Sampling. Turn it on only if you will watch the peer: Sightline treats it as a record that you did.

**1. Turn it on in setup**

In setup, turn on **Peer comparison**. For an interval method, choose how often the peer is observed, such as every 5 intervals.

**2. Score the peer while recording**

Frequency: each behavior has a **Target** row and a **Peer** row on the same clock. Select the count on the **Peer** row, or hold <kbd>⌥</kbd> or <kbd>Alt</kbd> and press the behavior's key.

Interval: when the heading changes to **Comparison peer**, watch and score the peer for that interval. Return to the student when it changes back.

**3. End and save**

Select **End** and confirm, then save as usual.

## Where your data appears

* Frequency: the peer's rate per minute beside the student's, and a Peer row in Event Record → Timeline. With no peer events, Summary shows Peer 0/min and the Peer row is empty. That is a real result: you watched the peer and the behavior did not occur.
* Interval: the peer's percentage of scored peer intervals. It appears once the peer has 3 scored intervals for that behavior; until then it shows Peer with a dash in place of the percentage.

## Good to know

Didn't watch the peer? For a Frequency observation, open it in Results and select ⋯ → Remove peer comparison. Any peer events are deleted (Sightline asks first if there are any), and the peer is removed from Results and exports.

Peer intervals come out of the student's intervals, so the two percentages have different counts. Report each with its own count, such as 28 of 80 and 16 of 20.

In Frequency Results, you can drag a mark between the Target and Peer rows. In Interval Record, select a peer cell and score it the same way as a student cell. [Fix a mistake](https://docs.sightlinebehavior.com/fix-a-mistake.md)
