Results for every method except Anecdotal opens with a Summary card: one number per behavior, with a line under it saying what the number is out of. Rates and percentages of time divide by the time the recording clock ran, so paused time is left out. Anecdotal observations have no computed measures. Any count you report from an anecdotal log is your own, so say so.

Frequency

Interval methods

What ✓ means depends on the method:
  • Partial Interval: the behavior occurred at some point in the interval. It says nothing about how often or how long.
  • Whole Interval: the behavior occurred throughout the interval. An interval you left untouched is scored ✓.
  • Momentary Time Sampling: the behavior was occurring at the sampling moment.
Intervals with no score, such as ones you cleared, are left out of both numbers. “No scored intervals” means there is no percentage, which is not the same as 0%. Name the method and interval length whenever you report a percentage. Interval Record also offers Gaps (Partial Interval: stretches between ✓ intervals) and Runs (Whole Interval: consecutive ✓ intervals). Both are counted in whole intervals, not exact times, and a run is a minimum. A value marked ≥ reaches an observation boundary or a break in scoring and is left out of the average.

Duration

The card header shows the time it divides by, such as “20 min observed”.

Latency

Latency times one behavior per observation.

ABC

A common consequence is not, by itself, evidence that it maintained the behavior.

Measures by activity

When you select an activity, Summary recalculates for that activity:
  • Frequency divides by the activity’s minutes. Under a minute, Summary shows the count with “Too short to rate”.
  • Intervals use the intervals recorded during the activity.
  • Duration counts only the part of each episode inside the activity, shown as, for example, “23% of Reading time”.
  • Latency trials belong to the activity running at the cue.
  • ABC events belong to the activity recorded with them.
Check which activity is selected before you copy a number into a report. For how to word these measures, see Describe results in a write-up.
